I spoke with Bryan this morning for about a half hour. He told me his first impressions of Maui <hot, humid, beautiful> and we discussed his meeting yesterday. Things went pretty well. There are a few details that need to be ironed out and they will meet again on Tuesday morning but it looks like he will make an offer and they will be moving to paradise.
They got to go snorkeling yesterday. I guess the kids were so excited because they got to see all the fish from the movie, Nemo swimming around them. How cool! They were out in the water for about an hour before returning to their condo for dinner. Bryan said that he went grocery shopping while Shannon and the kids got cleaned up. I guess the price of food at the grocery store was very high. His friend told him that he should shop at Wal-Mart or Costco for groceries. I guess, too, that some of the markets have cards they give residents which give them discounts so they save money. He said two bags of salad, a carton of milk and a roasted chicken was like $29. That would have been about $14 here. I'm sure they will learn real fast where to get good deals on their basic needs.
We will be talking again soon so if there is more to report I will add an entry. Right now, I have to get ready to go out. Dennis and I are meeting friends for dinner this evening. This is the couple we went to Alaska with last year. It will be great to see them!

I know things are very expensive over there. Bob has been to Maui several times with his daughter and family. They always stayed in the Trendwest Condo and they bought groceries & cooked most of their meals rather than having to pay the high prices in the restaurants. What he bought would be about $12 here. Yikes, that's terrible. I wonder how much gas is? Linda in rainy Washington
I remember that we were told how high food prices are in Hawaii. Milk is very expensive as they don't have the land for dairy herds and it has to be flown in from mainland USA. Same goes for most things. I went to the Dole pineapple plantation and was amazed that I could buy a pineapple back home far cheaper than at the plantation! It is a beautiful place and I know the children will love growing up there if they move. Just think of all the exciting places they can show you when you visit! I know you'll miss them, it'll take time to adjust and I know you'll be forever on the phone to them! Jeannette xx http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/
I can't believe the price of things either, guess it's because they have to ship some things in, or maybe for tourists. Is it true that gas here in chicago is more expensive than out in California by you?? It's down to $3.39 from the high of $3.59, it was higher in the city of chicago over $4.00. I am in the suburbs. I am going out to eat too, with my kids, have fun! xox Rose
Hope all goes well for them on Tuesday. Enjoy your evening out.

I'm glad things went well for Bryan and that they are all having fun. You are such a selfless person Kathy, and I admire you so much....I know how hard this is on you. When I read your entry where Nathan asked you to come visit a lot, it made me cry....how did you keep it together? I know you have to for them, but still....you are brave! :)
I hope you had fun on your dinner and seeing your friends, you deserve a good night!
Love & Pooh Hugs,
Linda
P.S..............I don't think I've ever thanked you for the Pooh puffy stickers you sent me (Bad Linda!!!) I thought of it today when I used one, and felt so bad. Thank you so much for them, they are the cutest stickers I have ever seen, I LOVE them. You are kind to think of me. :)
