My sister called about 30 minutes ago. Grace, her golden retriever, had minor surgery this afternoon and a biopsy on the growth under her tongue. It was a very large abscess that extended down into her neck. The vet thinks it could be some kind of bug or spider bite that has become infected. He drained it and inserted a drain that will have to remain in her neck for about 5 days (or until it stops draining). She is on amxocillin for 10 days. He took an abdominal x-ray because her liver enzymes were elevated -- everything there is OK.
Anyway she is home on her big pillow looking rather drunk this afternoon. Carol said her tongue is sort of hanging out of the side of her mouth and when she opens her eyes they roll around in her head as she tries to focus. Ahhh, coming out of anesthesia is quite an experience.
We are all quite relieved that she is going to be Ok.

Poor baby....it's hard for them to understand what going on. I'll be praying for a quick recovery and tell your sis I'm happy for her that things went this way. I'll also hope she won't have much trouble keeping Grace quiet over the next days.
